Like seismic waves of an
earthquake, the need in Haiti
will come in waves. Please give this some thought.
First, there is the search &
rescue. Although there isn’t much help for you to provide
with search & rescue, the monumental effort will result in a huge
depletion of the resources of the Red Cross, UN, and others.
Please consider that those resources will have to be replenished.:

Committee of the Red Cross
Then select Haiti in the drop-down list.
The
American Red Cross International Response Fund
(Be sure to indicate that you want your donation used in Haiti).
Or donate $10 to the American Red Cross – charged to your cell phone
bill – by texting "HAITI" to "90999”.

Immediately after those rescue teams have pulled the dead and alive
from the wreckage, the disaster
emergency response must be robust-- food, water, clothing,
emergency shelter, emergency medicine. Certain NGOs have been
working to improve the lot of the Haitian people for some time.
Please support them as they redouble what was a Sisyphean effort even
before the quakes.:

Unfortunately, after our Haitian neighbors are rescued, fed, and
medically stabilized, those who are “lucky” enough will face the
colossal challenge of rebuilding their
society. With demolished schools, hospitals, churches, homes,
streets, water pipes, sewers, and electric lines, the same NGOs
mentioned above will stick around to help Haitians rebuild a
sustainable society. After the cable news camera crews have
departed in search of the next breaking story. This is when Haiti
may perhaps need your support the most. Please don’t forget the
children, women, and men of Haiti.
